What is Interior Design Style? Well it's much like dress style, but it' s dressing your home, which is equally as important.
An Interior Design style should flow from the front door all the way through to the back door.
Everyone has their own individual and unique Interior Design style. If you are fun and out going, then your style will probably be bright and funky, or you are more serious and conservative, your home will portray that too.
There is no better canvas than your own home to express who you are, how individual and creative you can be.
My Style is very Eclectic, mixing old with new, antiques with super contemporary. It's fun to play with current pieces and place them next to design classics. I love layering different textures, gorgeous tactile cushions, flamboyant wallpaper, wool rugs, giving the room character and depth. Here are some of the main Interior Design Styles, see which one you are.
Contemporary style is: when you think less is more, smooth profiles instead of ornamentation, solid or subtle pattern fabrics in lieu of colourful prints, little or no accessories rather than big collections.
Natural light is harnessed to its full effect in the open plan living, which makes them feel airy and and open. Because there is no clutter every object and piece of furniture has to count.
Country style is comfortable with a strong sense of tradition, yet incredibly flexible and easy to live with. This interior is warm, cosy and friendly, with a big stove or open fire in the living room.
Walls can be roughly plastered and painted. Tongue and groove panelling can be added to give extra cosiness.
Wooden floors or tiles can be used with the odd rug here and there.
This country or homely look is also created by pattern and texture, fabrics can be pretty cottons or linen florals, heavy fabrics, ginghams and plaids like the Laura Ashley sofa in the above picture.
Eclectic style reshuffles the rule book, well there is no rule book, mixing and matching old and new, quiet and loud, east and west, anything goes!! If well done, Eclectic decor can look very impressive, Individualistic and unique, but still adhere to the fundamentals of good interior design. I love this style, because it allows you to display treasured memories, and family heirlooms along side chainstore accessories, making them complement each other. The danger of this style is if not carried out properly can look like a jumble sale.
Classical style is the other side of the coin, it's smart and sophisticated, in full control and well thought out, therefore works well in a more formal setting. Order, symmetry and balance are key. Rooms are harmonious, coordinated, with rich, heavy, luxurious fabrics. Curtains are full, made from heavy velvets, showcasing pelmets, swags and tails.
These are only a few of the Interior Design Styles, and I hope you enjoyed reading this blog. You don't have to follow any Interior Design style, let your imagination run wild, and follow some simple design rules, and just have FUN!!!!!
